A lifelong resident of Georgia, Dr. Lauren Cortjens earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University in 2006. During her time at the university, she started as a center fielder for the school’s Division 1 softball team. Following her graduation, she embarked on a two-year experience as a fitness professional, during which she remained committed to enhancing the performance of athletes.
Driven by her unwavering dedication to athlete well-being, Dr. Cortjens pursued advanced education, culminating with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Life University in 2012. She furthered her expertise by obtaining certification as a Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (CCSP) through the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. Additionally, she underwent training in various specialized techniques such as Active Release Techniques, Fascial Distortion Model, Graston, and Rock Tape application, among others, to effectively address the specific needs commonly encountered by athletes.
Drawing from her own experiences as an athlete, Dr. Cortjens possesses a unique insight into the challenges athletes face in overcoming injuries and returning to competitive form. This perspective enriches her approach to treatment, enabling her to provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of athletes striving for peak performance.
Dr. Cortjens currently competes in ultra-distance running and CrossFit and can be seen most weekends either running with her dogs or at a sports field with her two boys.
